My Mother-In-Law Wants To Be My Hall Pass

When The Joke Lands Wrong

The premise starts with a boast. At a family dinner, Kate says she trusts her husband Dan so completely that a hall pass would be wasted on him. Her relatives treat it as a good line, but her mother, Margot, hears something else and acts on it ten minutes later.

The layout of the house keeps it tense. Kate is within earshot asking for coffee, Dan wants to stay the saint his wife believes in, and Margot, his mother-in-law, treats his refusal as a challenge instead of an answer.
